Abstrak

The characteristics of Servant Leadership are described in ancient Greek terms as 'Primus Inter Pares'. A leader must be alongside those they lead in order to move forward together in implementing their leadership programs.

Servant Leadership in a literal sense means leadership as a servant. This means that a leader, in carrying out their duties, is always alongside the people they lead, cooperating with them. In other words, the leader serves the people they lead, not the other way around where they are served by the people they lead.

Servant Leadership is viewed from three perspectives as follows:

1. From the Perspective of Leadership Actors. Mr. Drs. Steff Agus in his book "Tips for Building Visionary Leadership" outlines a model of Visionary Leadership that has four important points: first: Exploring and Examining the Organization's Resources, second: Observing the General Conditions of Society, third: Getting to Know Work Partners More Closely, fourth: Designing Partnership Patterns.
2. Perspective of the ScripturesThe Gospel provides an illustration of leadership in the time of Jesus. The Scriptures describe the situations and conditions as well as how leaders carried out their leadership. Some exercised their leadership with an iron fist, meaning it was full of violence. Several passages of the Gospel also depict how leadership was practiced.
3. Perspective of Church DocumentsSome Church documents also outline its views on Servant Leadership. Among them is a document written by Pope Benedict XVI on the ministry of leadership. In the Dogmatic Constitution documents "Apostolicam Actuositatem" and "Lumen Gentium" about the Apostolate of the Laity.

In addition to the leadership figures, in the Scriptures, and in church documents, Servant Leadership is also exemplified by Jesus Christ Himself. In the Old Testament Scriptures, there are many passages that describe the style of leadership of Jesus as He carried out God's mission to fulfill the Kingdom of God.

This refers to the style or character of Servant Leadership that must be possessed by a pastoral worker. The character of a servant leader starts with self-confidence, having passion or enthusiasm, possessing courage, working sincerely, having responsibility, discipline, and being capable of reading situations. These are the characteristics that must be owned by a pastoral worker in carrying out their duties as a lay servant/apostle and also in fulfilling the kingly duties of Christ.
