Abstract

The leadership competency of Catholic religious teachers in implementation consists of planning, organizing, motivating, guiding, and maintaining. With the leadership competency, Catholic religious teachers can support activities to foster tolerance between students at school. This study aims to describe the implementation of the leadership competency of Catholic religious teachers in fostering tolerance between students of SMP Negeri 4 Jempang. The research method uses qualitative with data collection techniques, namely observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique uses the stages of data collection, data coding, data presentation, and finally drawing conclusions. The results of this study found that the implementation of the leadership competency of Catholic religious teachers in fostering tolerance between students includes: (1) There is no specific planning for tolerance fostering activities, but direct activities such as flag ceremonies and gymnastics, (2) Organizing in tolerance fostering activities in learning from class 7, (3) Motivating by appreciating using positive sentences, (4) Guiding students by providing understanding, inviting, and helping others without looking at differences, (5) Maintaining harmonious relationships between teachers and students at school. Effective strategies used by Catholic religious teachers in fostering students’ religious tolerance are role models, advising, and collaborating. The challenges faced by Catholic religious teachers are not found in conflicts or cases related to tolerance, only obstacles for students in adjusting to the new environment and the ability to learn.
